San Juan Shuffle, Colorado skip, Montana drag

Last Tuesday I was fishing Eleven Mile Canyon; I saw a guy shuffling his feet and fishing the chum line in his wake. He was quite upfront about his technique - #16-18 Pheasant Tail matching the nymphs he was shuffling up. I did some web searches and came up with San Juan Shuffle, Colorado skip, Montana drag.

I no doubt was not having a great day fishing; After two days of rain the water was as high as I had ever seen it. But I wasn't about to resort to disturbing the bottom of the stream just to attract a few more fish.

After corresponding with Bill Edrington of Royal Gorge Anglers (www.royalgorgeanglers.com) I found that while not illegal this practice is discouraged a unethical. Ed Engle (http://www.anglerscovey.com/engle.htm), during a recent presentation, also stated his thinking was that this was unethical.
